On ABC Radio: ISCAST Director on “How do we know what we know?”

ISCAST Executive Director Chris Mulherin was one of the guests on the ABC’s “God Forbid” program recently. See here.

The program’s introduction runs like this:

If something is true, you should be able to prove it. Sounds reasonable, but is it correct? James Carleton and the God Forbid panel investigate the nature of knowledge and the philosophy of science.

Science and religion are often assumed to be incompatible, but plenty of scientists are also religious — even if they work for high profile scientific bodies like NASA.

If everything can be explained by physics — atoms, electromagnetism, nuclear force, gravity — then do we really need abstract ideas like a theory of the mind?

The human brain remains one of the most complicated things we know, and consciousness has fascinated scientists and religious scholars alike for hundreds of years.
