MIT’s Professor Paula Hammond shares her story with ISCAST

Professor Paula Hammond is head of the top-ranked chemical engineering department in the world, located at the top university in the world, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. So it’s no surprise that she was the invited speaker for Melbourne University’s Graeme Clark Oration on July 4th. And what a privilege it was for some ISCASTians to be able to meet over afternoon tea with Paula as she shared her faith and her science. You can read a sermon by Paula here.

At the Graeme Clark Oration, Paula explained to over 1000 guests how her team uses nanotechnology to deliver therapeutic drugs (antibiotics, growth factors etc.) to specific locations in the body. One of Paula’s projects is to be able to use nanoparticles to target cancer cells. See here for Paula explaining some of this revolutionary technique.

Our host at the ISCAST meeting was Stewart Gill, Master of Queen’s College at the University of Melbourne. Margaret and Graeme Clark (ISCAST’s patron) also joined us. Pictured above are (L to R) Margaret and Graeme Clark, Chris Mulherin, Paula Hammond and Stewart Gill.
