On Monday 3 August associate director Daniel Lowe will briefly update the Perth chapter on ISCAST activities and plans, then speak on: “The Machine in the Mirror: What AI Reveals About Intelligence, Humanity and Responsibility”.

AI can write, reason, persuade, and even sound as though it cares. But is there really anyone there? This talk examines the growing temptation to treat machines as human and humans as machines, asking what AI reveals about intelligence, personhood, responsibility, and the image of God. Rather than panic or surrender, how might Christians engage with AI wisely, critically, and hopefully?

Speaker

Daniel Lowe has spent 34 years engaging young people in conversations about faith and life. As an Anglican minister, Daniel has served as a school chaplain at St Paul’s Anglican Grammar School in Gippsland for 20 years. Prior to that, he was a parish youth minister at Warragul Anglican Church, and Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Oakleigh.

A passionate communicator, Daniel has broad experience in public speaking, preaching, and writing for various publications. He holds a Graduate Diploma of Education, a Bachelor of Arts, and a Diploma of Theology. He is married to Helen, a physiotherapist, and they have two sons.

With the rise of artificial intelligence, rapid developments in medical technology, the looming spectre of climate change, and a growing disillusionment with secular responses, our world is crying out for a better narrative. What better conversation to be a part of than the intersection of science and faith? That is why I am so excited to be joining the ISCAST team.
