Can we trust our Bibles if there are textual variations in the manuscripts we have? Dr Tim Finney will introduce his research into textual variations in the Letter to the Hebrews. He will show how modern scientific methods, such as multivariate analyses, continue to shed light on the intriguing history of the copying and transmission of these texts, demonstrating their reliability and accuracy despite the minor differences found. Expect a fun audience participation exercise.

About the Speaker

Dr Timothy Finney says:

I have a chequered history: just a suburban boy who did physics (badly), radiation, patent examining, youth working, Bible (too much examining, not enough doing).

His CV reveals he has degrees in physics, computer studies, divinity, and a PhD on the text of Hebrews. He has lectured at WA theological colleges, and also worked in IT, data science, health physics and New Testament textual research. He has made a number of academic conference presentations.
