Peter Thomas

Peter Thomas

Peter is a retired petroleum industry geoscientist, having served Shell then Woodside in the Netherlands, Oman, Cairo, Brunei, Melbourne, and Perth. His speciality was seismic delineation of deep hydrocarbon reservoirs, including time-lapse reservoir depletion monitoring. It all began with a love of dinosaurs, which led to Natural Sciences at Cambridge University (UK), Geophysics at Durham University, and thence the oil patch.

Peter became a Christian at age eighteen and nursed a background curiosity in science-faith for many years, which finally flourished into volunteering for ISCAST once he had retired. Peter co-ordinates the Perth chapter of ISCAST, which currently holds monthly speaker and/or discussion meetings, and is seeking additional opportunities for outreach in schools, universities, and churches. He is passionate about turning around perceptions of science from being an enemy of faith to being an enricher or even enabler of faith.

Peter is married with three adult children and a granddaughter. Although raised in the UK, he now considers himself an Aussie (until the Ashes come around!). He and his wife have been in Perth for twenty-seven years, and have been attending the same large Baptist church for almost as long.
