Katherine Seaton
Profile
Katherine Seaton (F AustMS, SFHEA) is currently an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at La Trobe University. Katherine’s PhD and initial research area was in statistical mechanics. Over time, this has broadened to include applications of mathematics in engineering and data science and most recently, mathematical art. Her scholarship extends to tertiary mathematics education, with a particular interest in assessment and academic integrity.
While she has been an academic mathematician for over 30 years, she has been a Christian (evangelical Anglican) for her whole life. The fallenness apparent in the lives of scientists and in the applications of science underlines for her that while the answers science provides reveal God to us, there is more that science alone doesn’t address.
