Evolution of the West: the complex relationship between Christianity and Modernity

Christianity's positive role in the formation of Western civilisation.

As I was finishing Nick Spencer’s The Evolution of the West, I happened to be in the same room with my mother on a Sunday afternoon. We’ve often exchanged books, so she asked what I was reading, and I showed her the cover, reading the subtitle to her, How Christianity Has Shaped Our Values. “Oh,” she said, “I always assumed that was true—that Christianity shaped how we think.”

New statistics on human origins

No, there are no new statistics about the origin of humans, but there are new statistics about what people believe about origins. A recent Gallup poll in the United States reveals that while 19% of people believe God had no part in the development of human beings, by far the majority see the hand of God at work. This majority is split evenly between young-earth and theistic evolutionary views. More details are here on the Gallup site.
