Michael Smith

Profile

After initially studying Engineering, Michael pivoted into first software development and then marine ecology. He undertook a PhD in Ecological Modelling at the University of Melbourne (co-sponsored by CSIRO), studying the multi-species impacts of human activity on ocean ecosystems. After the PhD, Michael performed research into climate change mitigation, and then co-founded a specialist scientific consultancy to provide modelling services to government and public-sector organisations. He now works for the State Government, building complex system models to support strategic planning.
